LaMoyne Star block used in Haul Out the Holly Quilt

Several of my quilt patterns use LaMoyne Star Blocks. My construction method for these stars is super easy and straightforward, with no Y-seams or other tricky techniques. There’s also not a lot of fabric waste like in some methods. The way I accomplish this is by beginning with the correct shapes - right triangles and diamonds. Right triangles are easy to cut, of course. They’re just squares cut in half. But diamonds are slightly more complicated. They can be cut from a fabric strip using a ruler that has a 45 degree marking or they can be cut using a template. My patterns include these instructions, as well as a paper template. However, if you want a template that’s more permanent, I offer those as well.

12” Star Blocks are used in the Haul Out the Holly Quilt (Throw & King Size) and the Fifty Nifty Quilt

6” Star Blocks are used in the Haul Out the Holly Quilt (Wall Hanging size) and the upcoming Holiday Welcome Quilt. (Releases 9/24)

If you’re interested in making one of these quilts, consider making the small investment in a diamond template. It will help cut down your prep time so you can get to the sewing faster, as well as ensure your quilt pieces are as accurate as possible.
