Irish Chain Beauty

My mother-in-law wanted a new bedspread to cheer up her bedroom in her assisted living apartment, and I was happy to oblige. Her birthday wasn’t far away, and I wondered if I would be able to get a bedspread made by her birthday, in between my other projects.

I thought of the Irish Chain pattern, from the 9 Patch Wonder pattern, and knew that it would look perfect in the floral fabric she had chosen, and, importantly, it was super speedy to sew. I decided to try to get it done. By the time the fabric arrived, I had about 4 days to get the quilt sewn, quilted and bound!

It took some doing, because it was a large quilt (81”x108”) but I was able to get the quilt done on time and my mother-in-law loves it! She still thanks me every few days for it. I’m happy to be able to brighten her days a little bit.

This pattern is free and is a great one to try if you want to dip your toe into the quilting world. It includes two different quilt patterns that are both based on the classic 9 patch design, and they both have baby, throw, and queen instructions.

Give it a try! I think you’ll like it!
