Star Quilt Block Appreciation

I might have a small obsession for using star blocks in my quilt pattern designs. 4 of my last 5 patterns released have featured star blocks in one form or another. Most of them utilize the LaMoyne Star, but there are others sprinkled in. Let’s take a look…

Fifty Nifty Quilt

It all started with the Fifty Nifty Quilt pattern. I tested a few different star styles in this quilt, but I fell in love with the simple beauty of the LaMoyne Star. My piecing method is simple and straightforward, with no Y-seams. See a simple cutting tutorial here.

Autumn Sunshine Quilt

I moved on to two new star quilt blocks with the Autumn Sunshine quilt pattern. The Rhode Island Star forms the center of this medallion quilt, and the Ohio Star serves as a cornerstone for the autumn leaf strips that are a main design feature. I used both of these stars to bring to mind the cheerful sunflowers that are plentiful in my area in early autumn.

Haul Out the Holly Quilt

With my next quilt pattern I returned to the Lamoyne Star quilt block with a vengeance. Haul Out the Holly is made entirely of LaMoyne Stars! The wreath design is made from the fabric colors of the different star pieces. This is a super fun quilt to put together. A template does come in handy, because that’s a lot of diamonds to cut!

Holiday Welcome Quilt

And my newest quilt pattern, due for release around Labor Day, Holiday Welcome, also used LaMoyne stars as a feature. Here they are used as an accent to add sparkle and life to this traditional holiday quilt pattern.

And many of my Quilt Block Christmas Ornaments feature stars, of course! What’s more Christmassy than a red and green star?

So next time you’ve got your head in the stars, head on over to my shop! I’ve got just the thing for you!
